1984 R100RT with Velorex Project

1984 BMW R100RT with Velorex 562 sidecar project for sale.

This rig was purchased in about 2016 already build, but in need of a lot of TLC. Over the next 3 years, a frame-up restoration was completed. The frame was stripped and powder coated, the electrical system was completely remade, and the engine had a top-end rebuild. Wheels were powder coated and all body panels were stripped and repainted.

About 3,000 miles have been added since the rebuild; very few miles have been added in the past 2 years. In preparation for the sale, a new Optima yellow top battery has been added.

Modifications and upgrades:
Upper engine rebuild with fresh head gaskets, piston ring, and valves
Both cylinders were honed and remain stock diameter
Valve seats were lapped
Carburetor rebuild with new seals
All rubber hoses, fuel lines replaced
Upgraded alternator – Enduralast charging system kit; this eliminates the diode board
New Stainless Steel exhaust system
Replacement high-torque starter motor
MotoGadget M-unit digital control center
Rewired entire bike; completely documented electrical schematics are included
The system allows custom configurations and eliminates most fuses
Most lighting has been replaced with LED for reduced electrical draw and better visibility
A hidden kill switch has been added for security
Tornado 139 dB horn mounted in the sidecar
Optima yellow top automotive battery with quick disconnect is mounted in the sidecar
All body panels have stripped and repainted with PPG Deltron paint
Sidecar underbody finished with Bullfrog 2-part epoxy bedliner
Custom Corbin saddle
Replacement Parabellum windshield
Mag wheels powder coated silver
Frame-up restoration included power coat of the frame and key engine & suspension components

The setup of the sidecar rig is good; sufficient miles have been added to ensure the system is reliable. There is no rust on the system and the electrical system is reliable. The paint is in very good condition.

Why I am calling this a “project”:
The bike has been mostly sitting for 2 years in covered storage. While the small issues that have been found have been addressed prior to the sale, I think a deeper dive by the future owner would be wise.
The tires should probably be replaced due to age.
While all functionality of the stock switchgear iis retained:
The lights (high beam and flash-to-pass) have been moved to a modern pair of buttons which are mounted next to the stock control.
The kill switch has been moved from the handlebar control to inside the front fairing
The fairing pocket covers are not attached and will need work or replacement to be functional
The electrical system, while reliable and well-documented will be a turn-off for some people. Wires are numbered on the bike and a complete color wiring schematic along with M-gadget setup notes are included in the sale.
