Alice, the unrestored 29561 original mile 1972 BMW R 75/5 with Steib TR500 sidecar. Located in Austin TX

During the summer of 1972, Joe and Alice traveled to Germany to pick up a Monza blue R75/5 when Butler and Smith helped coordinate such events. They rode it around Europe, and attached badges of countries they visited to the toaster tank. Currently it wears a set without the badges, but I can include the toasters with badges. Photos show Joe and Alice continued travels around the USA together, sometimes with a large fairing and later with a Steib TR500 attached. Joe passed in 2007, but the motorcycle continued to see adventure with Alice serving President of the Chicago Region BMW Motorcycle Association. One notable adventure saw Alice at 84 ride from Chicago to Montana and back to attend a gathering in 2015. I can only hope to have as storied of a life as this Joe and Alice did together.
Some modifications were made to improve visibility, including a VW tail light and what I guess are Honda front indicators. I have the original Steib tail light. I also have the original Monza blue battery cover if you decide to ride without the sidecar.
Paper work from original purchase included. The R75/5 starts and runs good, shifts good and stops good. Everything works as it should.
This bike is now 50 years old, unrestored, and has plenty of patina. There’s an older Steib seat included, however my wife prefers the homemade seat the first owners made as it is more comfortable.
According to the family of Joe and Alice, the side car fender kissed an old wheelhorse tractor a few times when Joe would pull in or out of the garage. The tractor and the sidecar fender would meet - It could use some bodywork. Fender was straightened and welded so it wouldn’t hit the tire anymore.
Under my ownership, I added new period correct Ikon shocks to the sidecar to make for a more pleasant ride, adjusted the valves and changed the oil.
29561 original miles (I added approximately 600 of those). Mileage will go up a bit, as I do take the bike for occasional grocery runs.

I bought this combo as an experiment - my wife enjoyed the sidecar so much that we found another one which we'll keep to make our own history. Alice the '72 needs a new home, hopefully one that will appreciate the history as much as we do. I have the phone number for the original family as well for anyone wanting to hear more stories.
