Recent Service Items Accomplished
1) The original owner generously did the routine BMW 72k service at an authorized shop, prior to my purchasing the bike at 70k, that service included replacing all the rear fluids.
2) New Starter Motor installed by me 4000 miles ago.
3) New Slave Cylinder for Clutch installed by me (with friend!) 500 miles ago
4) Routine Servicing and parts through Max’s BMW; in Troy NY, Hampton NH, and Hartford CT
Items to mention
If you know BMWs, you know this was a good year for this model, with dual spark plugs in each cylinder to correct the surging that was common in earlier models.
For this and most shaft-drive BMWs, the term ‘high mileage’ does not apply until approaching 200k.
I bought this bike at 70k from the original owner in Nevada, shipped in enclosed tractor-trailer to VT.
This bike has never been in a collision, yet I dropped it once, cracking the right mirror and right saddle bag mount. Both are still functional.
1) The right side mirror has a crack at the outer edge, does not affect riding safety imho
2) The exhaust mount (a cast-fitting) cracked 200 miles ago, so it’s held snug with wire.
3) The right saddle bag is firmly attached to the bike by auxiliary means, so is fussy to detach.
